EXTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Externship Information for Veterinarians and Technicians

At Deason Animal Hospital we offer an excellent externship program for Veterinary and Veterinary technician students. Our externs have come all over the U.S. as well as Mexico, Canada, Japan, Germany, Ireland, Taiwan, Holland and France. We provide a place to stay just walking distance from the Hospital. A typical externship last between 1-6 weeks and varies depending on the students needs.

You will be able to observe case work ups (large and small animal), surgeries, go on farm calls and assist with after hour emergencies, 7 days a week and 24 hours a day. We hope you will appreciate the experience of all aspects of a rural Veterinary practice.

Claudia Miller – Germany

I spent four wonderful weeks with you, full of new experiences and lots of opportunities of gaining more skills and knowledge! It was very interesting for me to see different cases than in Germany, for example snakebites, sandburns, cancer of the eyes or cosmetic dehorns.

Deason Animal Hospital is a very well run clinic with amazing staff who are passionate about veterinary medicine. I learned a lot even in the short time I was here. The coolest thing I got to see was the rattlesnake bites. We don’t have those in Iowa so that was very interesting.
